College of Liberal Arts
Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts at Norwich University. This is an exciting time for the college, which was created in 2012 to combine the Humanities and Social Sciences departments. It represents the largest unit of faculty and students on campus.
We have a lot going on. In addition to stellar academic programs, including the new Education and Chinese majors, we have launched a study-abroad option in Chengdu, China for Criminal Justice students.
Most important, however, is the strength of the people who compose the college. We have outstanding faculty, recognized for their teaching and scholarship at Norwich and across the nation. They are engaging in interesting research, such as:
- Tracing the steps of an abolitionist in Ireland
- Studying resiliency and stress response in military personnel
They are also committed to developing new opportunities for students. Recently the college initiated the Creative Writers Series and the International Visitors Series, which allowed students and community members to interact directly with acclaimed writers and experts in a variety of settings.
We also have an accomplished student body that has won awards for video productions, been recognized as outstanding interns and engaged in innovative scholarship. Our students have been increasingly invested in research projects outside of the classroom and presented at a number of regional and national conferences. Students have also taken course trips to Vietnam, Thailand and Taiwan; breakfasted with a former director of the National Security Agency; and participated in a symposium on crime-scene investigation. Students in our college continue to challenge and motivate their instructors.
