Political Science major

What are the duties and obligations of citizenship? What are justice and power, and to what degree do institutions shape our political behavior?

The study of political cience at Norwich University will sharpen your analytical, communicative and research skills. Through a wide variety of courses and experiences, you will open yourself to broader intellectual horizons and understanding.

At Norwich, political science courses fall into five broad categories:

  • American politics
  • Public policy and administration
  • International relations
  • Comparative politics
  • Political theory and philosophy

We encourage students to explore opportunities off campus. The Washington Semester Program sends students to the heart of American government for a semester that includes a seminar, internship and research project or elective class. Norwich students have also served as interns in the offices of the vice president and several U.S. representatives, as well as the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Offices. Study-abroad programs have taken political-science students to China, Mexico, Canada and Jordan. There are also plenty of opportunities to participate in clubs and activities related to the major. Norwich also offers a Political Science minor.
