What a minor in French can do for you
French-language skills help prepare you for a career in the military, international business, diplomacy, international relations, research, teaching, or in any field where you encounter representatives or data from foreign countries. A person who is fluent in French increases his or her ability to effectively communicate with populations around the globe.
French is used in an official capacity in more than 40 countries and has proven critical in U.S. Military African Command and counterterrorism partnerships.
Norwich students earn a minor degree by completing six courses beyond the introductory level.
To best develop language and cultural-awareness skills, it is highly recommended you spend a summer or semester abroad. Norwich has established a student-exchange program with the internationally renowned French military academy, l’École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr. Students who have a scholarship with the military are encouraged to apply for this unique opportunity.
Visit the l’École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr Study Abroad site for more information. To learn more about study-abroad opportunities, contact Norwich’s International Center.
